The second generation Google Nexus 7 is a multi-touch tablet and it has very good specifications. It has a dimension of 200 mm x 114 mm x 8.65 mm and a light weight of 299 g. It is lighter than an average tablet of around 360 g. It has a big display and a physical size of 7.0 inches.

HTC 10

The HTC 10 product launch in April was met with much anticipation from consumers, due to the 10 being widely regarded as the smartphone that would “decide the fate” of the company. With the generally weak consumer reception to the 10’s predecessor, the HTC One M9, many hoped that this would be the defining flagship that would bring back the glory days of the excellent One M8.

Design

htc-10-gs7e-3

The HTC 10 generally sticks to the HTC One design language, with an all-aluminium metal body design and a polished, textured finish that inspires confidence in the user’s hand. While some may bemoan the lack of substantial design changes from the previous M9, the combination of an aluminium body and chamfered metal edges does look good, even when compared with rival flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 or Moto Z. The HTC 10 comes in three colours, Carbon Grey, Topaz Gold and Glacier Silver. My personal favourite is Carbon Grey, which gives it a understated but professional look.

Display and Performance

The HTC 10 is no slouch when it comes to the performance department, especially due to the combination of a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM. While newer smartphones such as the Google Pixel come with the improved Snapdragon 821, performance on current flagship phones are generally more than sufficient for handling even the most demanding games and tasks. The display is a QHD 5.2 inch Super LCD5 capacitive touchscreen. With a pixel density of a whopping 565 ppi that makes current-gen iPhones pale in comparison, sharpness definitely isn’t an issue with the HTC 10. While Super AMOLED panels in the Galaxy S7 generally provide vibrancy and deep blacks that the LCD5 display cannot provide, the 10’s display is definitely still a performer.

Connectivity options and Battery Life

Battery life on the HTC 10 is generally a mixed bag, as use case scenarios vary greatly. Despite the large 3000 mAh battery in the HTC 10, under heavy use the battery still drains pretty quickly. Light tasks such as Internet browsing should generally still do fine, but users do need to be a little careful with their usage, as with many smartphones these days. However, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology does help, with the dedicated charger providing sufficient juice for hours of usage in less than 30 minutes of charging.

In terms of storage expansion options, the HTC 10 does have a micro SD expansion slot that allows for more memory on top of the 32GB of internal storage provided. A Type-C connector is also present, as expected of a 2016 smartphone, and my beloved 3.5mm headphone jack also remains.

Audio Quality and Camera Performance

When it comes to audio quality, HTC’s One family of smartphones has always been known as great performers, and the 10 is no exception. The dual amplifier setup and dedicated DAC on the 10 allows for excellent audio output, even when compared to smartphones such as the LG V20 and ZTE Axon 7. The HTC 10 can easily drive full-sized headphones, with enough power to push volume levels to unhealthy levels. For many audio enthusiasts, myself included, the audio output on the HTC 10 is one of its biggest selling points.

Compared to its predecessor, the One M9, the camera on the HTC 10 is also greatly improved, with good colours and sharpness in good light, thanks to its UltraPixel 2 image sensor. HTC’s update to the camera software on the 10 has also improved it significantly. However, the 10’s camera still does not match up with the S7’s, with issues in exposure and light detection occurring in auto mode. The presence of a manual mode with shutter speed, ISO and aperture control does help produce better quality images when the auto mode doesn’t quite cut it.

Like many other smartphones, the camera does not fare well in low light, and moving objects can cause a significant amount of blurring. The best part about the HTC 10’s camera is the RAW functionality that is provided, as it allows for a much better image output at the expense of RAW processing time, but for those who appreciate and need better quality images from their camera, it is still an immensely useful function.

Final Thoughts

The HTC 10 is an excellent performer overall, and despite a few flaws in some aspects, these can be overlooked in light of the HTC 10’s excellent audio quality, design and cleaner Sense UI interface. However, if you are looking for a smartphone with the strongest processing power and camera, the Samsung Galaxy S7 would still remain the top pick. The only caveat that severely bogged down the HTC 10 at launch was one thing – its price. With competitors such as OnePlus providing smartphones that cost much less, but had the performance of flagship smartphones, the HTC 10’s pricing made little sense to many. That has changed, however, in recent months, as the low demand for the HTC 10 has also resulted in price drops, and if the 10 can be obtained for less money, the fit and finish of the HTC 10 is hard to match.

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is a phone similar to top-end Xperia Z3. Its waterproof body allows it to be used in the shower, swimming pool and many other places. It also has a pretty decent processor that is able to handle everyday tasks on your smartphone. However, its camera isn’t really as outstanding compared to different smartphones, making it a bad choice for anyone who is keen on photography. There is also very limited storage space. As a result of the small storage capacity, this phone also does not suit mobile gamers.

It has dimensions of 145.5 x 72.6 x 7.3 mm (5.73 x 2.86 x 0.29 in) and has a weight of 136 g (4.80 oz) It has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and has a pixel density of 294 ppi. It also has a scratch-resistant screen. It runs on Android OS, v5.0 (Lollipop) It runs on a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 it also has a microSD card slot for SD cards up to 128 GB it has a 13 MP Primary Camera and has a 5 MP Secondary Camera. It uses a non-removable Li-Ion 2400 mAh battery. It comes in the colours Black, White, Coral, Silver.

So overall in my opinion, I do not really like this phone as it may be waterproof and a has decent screen resolution but the slow processing really makes this phone not a good one.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is a very interesting phone. It’s design is very unique when you compare it with other smartphones on the market. It has a wraparound screen which makes the Galaxy S6 Edge the best looking phone Samsung has ever made.

The Galaxy S6 Edge has dimensions of 142.1 x 70.1 x 7 mm and it weighs 132g. I think that it is great that Samsung kept the size of the Galaxy Edge not too big and not too small. Both the Galaxy S6 & Edge are made of metal or glass, making the smartphone look very classy. Well you may be thinking that there will be a lot of cracks on the Galaxy Edge if you drop it. But, the glass it uses is Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and it is extremely solid and hard to break by dropping. Based on many drop tests I saw on Youtube, the Galaxy Edge is so durable that even when it is dropped from above your head, all you get are some scratches on the edge but nothing on the screen. It was so durable that the testers had to deliberately throw it on the ground with force such that there is a crack on the screen and on the glass panel at the back.

For it’s display the Galaxy Edge uses a Super AMOLED capacitive, multitouch touchscreen and it has 16M colors which makes the images that the Galaxy Edge display very vibrant. The screen size is 5.1 inch. It has a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and has a ~577 ppi pixel density. In my opinion, this really is what makes the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Edge the best phones on the market right now.

It runs on Android OS, v5.0.2 (Lollipop) which is the latest version. The CPU it uses are the Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57. And its GPU is a Mali-T760MP8 which makes the display look very nice.

As I have said, the Galaxy S6 Edge does not have a card slot so you cannot put a microSD card in it. It comes with an internal memory of 32/64/128 GB. It has 3GB of RAM. In my opinion, the increased performance makes the phone an even better one.

The primary camera of it has 16MP. While the secondary camera has 5MP. It has a battery life of 73 hours based on endurance test done by reliable sources.

Well in my opinion, I think this phone is a very good phone. The thing that makes it different from other-high end phones is its wraparound screen. Thus, I personally feel that the phone is worth the price based on the specifications itself.

Samsung Galaxy S6

Samsung is a company that almost everyone have heard about regardless of where you’re from.Samsung has just recently released the Samsung Galaxy S6.But the Samsung Galaxy S6 is very different from the rest of the smartphones from the Samsung Galaxy S Series.

Samsung has decided to leave much of the Galaxy S5 traits behind and make a more different smartphone. And boom that’s how they made the Galaxy S6.A few difference that the Galaxy S6 has when compared to the Galaxy S5,is that the Galaxy S6 has a unremoveable battery and does not have a microSD card slot resulting in the Galaxy S6 being slimmer.

The dimension of the Galaxy S6 is 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm and it weighs 138g.I think that it is good that Samsung kept the S6’s size at check as you don’t really want to have a phone that is too big or too small.Even though the Galaxy S6 is 0.1mm thinner than the Iphone 6,I do not bend like the Iphone 6 which is great as you don’t have to worry about whether your phone which you pay S$998 for will bend or not.

Samsung also improved it’s fingerprint reader, and it’s not only for unlocking your home screen, it now allows you to make mobile payment using Samsung Pay.Which in my opinion might change how business will work in the future, maybe 10 to 20 years later people will no longer bring their wallets and they’ll use their smartphone choose the credit card of their choice and pay.

The Galaxy S6 uses a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen,16M colours. The size of the screen is 5.1 inches. It has a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (577 pixel density) It also has Multitouch which is something you should expect from the S6.In my opinion I think that the screen resolution is wonderful. When you compare the Galaxy S6 screen resolution to the Iphone 6, the Galaxy S6 is clearly the winner as the Iphone 6 has a screen resolution of 1334 x 750 (326 pixel density)

The Galaxy S6 runs on Android OS, v5.0.2 (Lollipop) it’s CPU is a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57.Since it has a Quad-core, it is able to run smoothly and process things very quickly. For the GPU it uses a Mali-T760MP8 which is a energy efficient GPU but still produces best quality graphics. And with such good performance, it makes the Galaxy S6 even more worth it.

One of the biggest diffrence from the Galaxy S6 has when compared to the Galaxy S5 is that it does not have a microSD card slot which I mentioned just now already.Well, in my opinion I even though the Galaxy S6 does not have a microSD card slot I think it just gives user slight inconvenience. The Galaxy S6 internal memory is enough for me so I think it would not be much of a problem. The Galaxy S6 comes with internal of 32/64/128 GB and has a 3GB RAM

The Galaxy S6 front camera has 16 MP, 2988 x 5312 pixels, optical image stabilization, autofocus, and LED flash. The front camera has video quality of 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, 720p@120fps.It’s rear camera has 5 MP.The rear camera has video quality of 1440p@30fps

Another one of the Galaxy S6’s feature is that it now can be charged without wires using inductive charging which uses a electromagnetic field to transfer energy from the charger to the Galaxy S6.Well with this method perhaps when wireless charging will become the way people charges things in the future and in a family that uses smartphone of different brand no longer need to worry about a clump of different charging cable everywhere.

The Galaxy S6 has a 2,550 mAh battery and in a standard video loop test it took 12.4 hours to run down. The battery last nearly a day when I use it like how I would normally use a smartphone daily.I surfed the net, played Clash of Clans occasionally and listened to music and the battery lasted for almost a day.So I think the battery life is good but it’s not like crazy long like some smartphone which has 3 day battery life. And with ultra power saving mode on you can charge your Galaxy S6 battery to a 100% very quickly.

The Galaxy S6 is also not waterproof but I don’t really think it will be a huge problem.

So overall in my opinion, the Galaxy S6 is the best android phone out on the market right now.So far the only android smartphone which might be better is the S6 Edge which has not been out yet.Based on it’s performance I think this smartphone is worth it.It cost S$998 and I think I would not mind paying even more for a phone which is this good. And I think that this is a warning to other companies like Apple,HTC and many more as this shows how capable Samsung is at when it comes to producing smartphones of top-notch quality.
