LG G8 ThinQ

The LG G8 ThinQ was just released in February this year. It is LG’s newest phone. Of course, like any phones, it has it’s own advantages and disadvantages. Let’s talk about it’s advantages first.

The phone’s front facing camera can recognise the veins in your palms to unlock the phone(if you have set a password for the phone), and uses the same camera to respond to your hand gestures. Those hand gestures can be used to adjust the volume of your phone just by twisting your hand or just by waving your palm, you can dismiss your alarm. The LG company put a vibrator behind the OLED display of the phone. It amplifies the sound so you can hear the voice on the other end of the line no matter where your ear is, which is good as you do not need to position your ear to where the speaker is. The phone’s night view, which helps you in taking photos at night as it will look more natural.

Now, let us talk about it’s disadvantages. The phone’s price is far too expensive, costing at $819 according to LG. The LG’s camera’s portrait mode is bad as it can’t seem to tell where the subject ends and the background begins and ends.

In conclucsion, though this phone has it’s own advantages, it is far too expensive compared to other phones like the Oppo R17 so you should consider before buying it.

Asus ROG Phone

Do you find your mobile device slow for gaming, or overheats easily? You might consider switching to an Asus ROG Phone. It is a phone made by Asus which is built for mobile gaming.

The Asus ROG Phone was first released on 18 October 2018. Starting from $899, it can either come in 128 GB or 512 GB of internal storage. The phone only comes in the colour black. The operating system is Android™ Oreo 8.1.

The phone is 158.83 mm long, 76.16 mm wide, and 8.3 mm thick. It weighs 200 grams. The display is 6 inches wide (2160×1080) and has an 18:9 ratio.

Features

AirTriggers are corners of the phone that is sensitive to pressure. This can be used to enhance gameplay in many games. In games where the controls can be edited, you can use AirTriggers to control something in the game. For example, you can bind the left button to jump in a game, and the right button to crouch.

ZenMotion allows you to write letters on the screen and open applications on your phone. For example, you can swipe the letter “C” to open up the application Camera. You can edit the letters to swipe to open an application in your phone by going to the phone’s settings.

It has a fingerprint sensor at the back which allows you to store 5 fingerprints, and also has a face recognition sensor.

Accessories

There are many accessories that can be bought for the Asus ROG Phone. For example, the accessory AeroActive Cooler can keep the device cool while playing games.

The accessory Gamevice is somewhat similar to a controller, but one difference between them is that for the Gamevice, you must slot your phone into the controller. For a typical controller, there is no screen on the controller and the screen is generally a television.

Conclusion

If you play mobile games frequently and the game does not run well even if it is on the lowest graphics settings, you can consider buying an Asus ROG Phone.

If you have a phone that can run mobile games quite well with no lag, I would not recommend you to buy this phone since buying the Asus ROG Phone might only give you a slight improvement in gameplay.

If you do not play mobile games frequently, I would not recommend you to buy this phone since it is a phone made for playing mobile games.

Pocophone F1

The Pocophone F1 is a new sub-brand created that is released by Xiaomi, a popular phone company around the world, especially in India. The Poco F1, is a phone which comes together with one of the strongest chipsets in the world, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Not only is that great about the Poco F1, but it is also one of the cheapest phone in the market with the chipset.

Xiaomi surprised all of us with the Pocophone’s amazing specifications but there are setbacks with the design. The phone’s model is made out of poly-carbonate which does not give that premium look and feeling compared to other phones, like the OnePlus 6. There is also 3 different colors to choose from; Graphite Black, Steel Blue and Russo Red. Unfortunately, there is a rather big notch right on top of the phone, which may be disturbing for some people. They did include a selfie camera, 3.5mm earpiece jack and receiver for facial recognition. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, there is also a dual camera on the back with 20 megapixels and auto-brightening lenses. Whilst containing a humongous 4000mAh battery to help with powering up the phone.

For the Pocophone F1 specifications, it has a 6.18″ IPS LCD. With a front camera of 20MP and a rear camera of 12MP.  It also contains an octa-core GPU inclusive with the powerful Qualcomn Snapdragon 845. For memory wise, you can choose between a 6 or 8GB of RAM and it also has 3 different storage sizes, which is 64, 128 or 256GB. Not only that, but it also has a hybrid microSD slot.

Since the Pocophone sub-brand will be functioning on its own, it is confirmed that it will release quicker updates. Xiaomi also stressed that the F1 would also have a customized version of the MIUI 10.

In my opinion, I would get the Pocophone F1 as it is a phone with incredible specifications and it is also the cheapest phone containing one of the strongest chipsets at the moment. Even though it may be quite expensive for some people, this is honestly still one of the best phones out there selling below $500.

Samsung Note8

Samsung Note 8

The Samsung Note 8 was released on September 2017, with the price of $1,398. It is water resistant and has a near bezel-less, full frontal glass, edge to edge screen(infinity display) measuring,  162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 mm and it weighs 195 g, while it’s S Pen dimensions is 108.3 x 5.8 x 4.2 mm with a weight of 2.8 g.

Specifications:

The Samsung Note 8 comes in 4 different colours, Midnight Black, Deep-sea Blue, Orchid Gray and Maple Gold.

The front camera has Selective Focus and Wide selfie. While the rear camera has Dual camera, Dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), Optical zoom at 2X, Digital zoom up to 10X, Live focus and Dual Capture. While both front and rear camera has:  HDR (High Dynamic Range), Virtual shot, Motion photo, Filters, Live stickers, Stamps, Grid line, Location tags, Timer, Quick launch and Voice control.

There’s two different type of camera installed at the back of the phone, one is the Telephoto camera and the other one is the Wide-angle camera.

The Telephoto camera has a Resolution of 12MP AF, a Pixel size of 1.0µm, a Sensor size of 1/3.6″ and a Sensor ratio of 4:3.While the Wide-angle camera has a Resolution of Dual pixel 12MP AF, a Pixel size of 1.4µm, Sensor size of 1/2.55″ and a Sensor ratio of 4:3.

The Samsung Note 8’s memory size is 6GB RAM (LPDDR4), but you can choose between 64/128/256GB. You can also expand the memory with a microSD card that can hold up to 256GB.

The audio playback formats are MP3, M4A, 3GA, AAC, OGG, OGA, WAV, WMA, AMR, AWB, FLAC, MID, MIDI, XMF, MXMF, IMY, RTTTL, RTX, OTA, DSF, DFF, APE.

The Samsung Note 8 has a battery capacity of 3300mAh, for internet use (Wi-Fi) it can last up to 10 hours, 3G can last up to 2 hours, while 4G can last up to 13 hours.

It also has many types of sensors, Iris Sensor, Pressure Sensor, Accelerometer, Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, HR Sensor, Proximity Sensor and RGB Light Sensor.

In my opinion, I would not buy this phone for its memory space and audio, I would never use the Samsung Note 8 to download many games since it has a nice audio sound and has a big memory space and you cannot expand it with a microSD card for 256GB more space.

Samsung S9+

The long-awaited Samsung S9+ has finally arrived, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is the most advanced big phone. You will not find a bigger and better Android phone than the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, thanks to its over-sized 6.2-inch curved screen and low-light-defeating dual-lens camera. Sure, it looks exactly like last year’s S8 Plus, but it does fix the fingerprint sensor location (it is now center-aligned on the back) and speakers (now stereo). The new AR Emoji mode is overrated though, and its higher price is tough to justify. This is for people who want the biggest screen and the best camera on one phone.

Design:

Without dramatic changes to the design, it is only an iterative update to the S8 Plus. Fingerprint sensor is now easily reachable, impressive dual-lens camera and loud stereo speakers.

Image result for s9+

It has a dual camera with 12 megapixel and that enables a nice picture to e captured. Its camera is also designed to be just like the human eye, as it captures stunning pictures in bright daylight and super low light.

How? It is because of its category-defining Dual Aperture lens which are able to automatically switch between various lighting conditions with ease—making your photos look great whether it is bright or dark, day or night.

How does it capture clear pictures at dark areas? As its f1.5 aperture mode detects light even in the dark. The low light camera delivers vibrant photos late into the night. The cameras also can record 4K videos and 9MP image recording, touch focus, face/smile detection and even Auto HDR. The camera at slow-mo can slow down time so much that you are able to not miss a single thing that happen in the video. The video would be run at 960 frames per second.

Image result for s9+

Also to add on, Samsung has added on a new feature, the AR emoji. The phone would change you into an emoji and enables you to send emoji stickers of yourself, so cool! You can do that by simply taking a selfie, and so you would get an Augmented Reality version of yourself.

Image result for ar emoji

Overall, I would prefer you to just get the Samsung galaxy S9 if you do not have big hands or do not really need a good camera for a phone. But S9+ is also recommended as it can capture images in the dark and that has never been created by any other phones before.

Vivo V7+

Image result for vivov7+

The Vivo V7+ is a mid range phone not meant for gaming but instead for taking selfies.

Details

The Vivo V7+ has a full metal body, a 6 inch display but with 1440 x 720 pixel resolution. Powered with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, it has a 4GB RAM with 64GB of on-board storage. It has a 24-megapixel front camera with LED flash and a Face Beauty Mode which allows you to smoothen out your face but may cause it to look too plastic.

The Vivo V7+ in general would be good if you are looking to take many picture with your phone but not really good for gaming if you are looking for good graphics and fast loading speeds. The LED flash also acts as a fill light if you ever find yourself wanting to take a picture in a low-light condition.

In my opinion, I would not buy this phone as I do not take much pictures and my phone is mainly used to check messages and play games. Hence, I would be getting a phone with a better processor and better display over the camera function.

The Vivo V7+ comes just under SGD$490

OnePlus 5T

Just like the previous One Plus 5, One Plus 5T comes in with a bang, being an awesome phone with the right price, making it one of the best value phones you can buy anywhere. With dual cameras which allows better pictures to be taken. Optimized for low-light and portrait photography. A highly rated 16 + 20 MP cameras that help you capture crystal-clear shots.

Image result for one plus 5t

One Plus 5T and One Plus 5 has almost the same name, but what is the difference? One Plus 5T has a larger display, measuring 6 inches instead of 5.5. With the aspect ratio has going from 16:9 to 18:9. Like iPhone X, One Plus 5T has Face recognition system with really helps with people that are lazy to unlock their phone by typing. It also has few software tweaks which are useful in small ways. With all this, it makes One Plus 5T a great and affordable phone .

Image result for one plus 5t

Having a 6-inch AMOLED display, you can see web pages clearer and bigger, which is awesome people that does not have good eyes. Now lets talk about One Plus 5T’s design. With an industrial aluminium uni body design, even if it’s basically the same as the One Plus 5’s. The edges are nicely curved, it’s not too big and it’s really thin. The biggest design change from One Plus 5 to 5T is that the fingerprint scanner now sits below the rear camera sensor, rather than on the phone’s front. One Plus having to go through multiple variations of this scanner just to get it right and had even tried colour matching it completely to the device, but in the end it stuck with the same ceramic construction as previous phones. But scanner itself is on the small side for my liking, but it’s perfectly positioned just where your finger naturally rests.

Image result for one plus 5t

The only thing i find odd is its slightly odd 2160 x 1080 resolution which i think does not work well. Further more, about the bad things the phone’s face unlock doesn’t authorize payments and its dual camera’s digital rather than telephoto zoom is a step back. There’s no expandable storage, and it’s not rated for water resistance.
