When it is the main display, it is engineered to reduce the harmful blue light without using filters to keep the colours true while lessening eye strain.

Looking for phone that can take clear sharp zoomed-in pictures? You might want to choose this Huawei P30 Pro.

LG V40 ThinQ

Often, LG phones would be placed around third to fifth place and compared to the iPhone and Galaxy brands. But with the LG V40 ThinQ, this Korean tech company has made its first mainstream phone to have five (yes, five) camera lenses dedicated to taking better, more creative photos than the iPhone XS Max or Galaxy Note 9. With three on its rear side and two on its front.

So should you buy the V40 just for its camera? It’s definitely worth considering if you see yourself using the wide-angle lens often. As with the V40 three rear camera, they allow you to take clear and pretty wide-angle pictures which would really impress your friends if you are taking welfies with them. What are wide-angle pictures? Well, they are taking expansive photos with a wide field of view, and fitting lots of content in each frame. It’s a signature feature in many LG phones, and the company has been iterating and improving on it for years.

The LG V40 thinQ also has one of the most important item in a premium phone that people want, and that is the headphone jack. The V40 is also only USD$900 and that is already $100 cheaper than the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 9. If you want to save some money you could always go for the V40.

But if you have a V30 with you, i would not recommend you to get the V40 as there is not much difference between these two phones if you do not need all of those camera features in the V40. While there are many phones with dual-rear camera, the V40 has a rarity of five and you would ask “what for?”

Its rear camera setup includes a standard lens with optical image stabilization, a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens with 2x zoom that takes dramatic, bokeh-style portraits. LG also loaded the camera with a bunch of lighting tools for portrait photos, nearly identical to the ones on the latest iPhones, which adds a studio-like quality to your pictures.

Photo quality on the V40 is awesome and excellent, pictures that are taken in brightly lit settings will be sharp and vibrant. While for low-light settings, the V40 would easily brighten the surrounding and capture the follow objects there.

Overall, i feel that the LG V40’s five cameras give you a variety of photography options. The phone has a 6.4-inch screen, but is still comfortable to hold. It’s water resistant, has expandable memory and a headphone jack. But its battery life is average and not really amazing to me for its price.

Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018)

Samsung Galaxy A9 was released on 22nd November 2018 for S$728.
It will be available in Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue and Bubblegum Pink.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 has a quad camera setup, with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display, runs on Snapdragon 660 processor, 6GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage. The first is the main 24MP f/1.7 camera. Followed by an 8MP f/2.4 ultra-wide 120-degree camera for group or landscape shots. The third camera is a 10MP f/2.4 telephoto with 2x optical zoom. The last is a 5MP f/2.2 camera that enables depth-of-field effects and lets you adjust your background blur in real time (Live Focus).

The Galaxy A9 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. It will get the Android Pie 9.0 update in April this year. It has a 3800 mAh battery which is bigger than the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.

Unfortunately, this Galaxy A9 does not support wireless charging, but at least it does support fast charging.

The design of the Galaxy A9 has design semblance with its triple-camera sibling, the Galaxy A7. Unlike the flat-back Galaxy A7, the rear glass on A9 curves towards the edges to facilitate a firmer grip.

The Galaxy A9 also include Bixby and is the first Samsung mid-range phone to include this. It also features a 3.5mm headphone jack and a fingerprint scanner on the back.

The display of the Galaxy A9 is bright, clear and colourful. There is no notch and has a large screen to enjoy with.

If you are looking for an excellent display, well designed interface, or dependable performance, you might want to choose this Samsung Galaxy A9.

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018)

Samsung Galaxy A7 was released on 10th November 2018 for S$428.
It will be available in Pink, Blue, and Black colors.

The Samsung Galaxy A7 has a triple rear camera setup with a 6-inch
2200 x 1080 pixel Super AMOLED display, 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The triple camera setup consists of a 5MP f/2.2 depth sensor, a 24MP f/1.7 primary sensor and an ultra-wide 120 degree 8MP f/2.4 sensor.

The Galaxy A7 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo (Android 9.0 Pie will be rolled out soon). It has 3300mAh battery, and runs on Exynos 7885 Octa CPU.

The good things about the Galaxy A7 are the high contrast OLED screen, ultra-wide camera, and the price is good.

The bad things about the Galaxy A7 are a weak GPU, slow charging, and a slightly soft main camera.
So this Galaxy A7 is not recommended to Gamers although it has a solid CPU.

The Design of the Galaxy A7 is good. It has glass on the front and back, aluminium on the sides. Plus the buttons are metal. Don’t worry, the Galaxy A7 still has a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is a fingerprint scanner located in the power button on the side, just like the old Sony Xperia phones. You do not need to press down on the actual button to wake it up, it just works on light contact. Sadly, this year’s Galaxy A7 does not offer the IP-certified water resistance of last year’s A7.

The screen of the Galaxy A7 offers the best colour and contrast you can get at this level, but not quite the best clarity.

If you do not wish to spend too much on high-cost phones, you may want to choose this as the Samsung Galaxy A7 is a lower-cost alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

DJI Phantom 4 Pro

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro is another drone for photographers to use. The DJI Phantom 4 Pro almost seems like it was made for that exact purpose with automated camera functions, robust controls, and a max speed of 72kph (45mph).

Specifications:

  • 1388g (3.06 pounds)
  • 350mm diagonally (13.7 inches)
  • Approx 28 minutes flight time
  • Controller with flight and camera controls (optional touchscreen)
  • 72kph (45mph)
  • Front and rear collision detection

The automated camera functions means that you do not need to control the camera on your own to do the same things over and over again. The 28 minutes flight time would mean that you do not have to constantly land your drone and recharge it and can continuously take a series of photographs. Having a controller with flight and camera controls to control the drone would be like playing a video game on your phone. Collision sensors on the sides would allow you to know when your drone bumps into something. The one on the bottom would allow for safer landings and the infrared sensors would allow it to know where it is in a confined space.

The return-to-home function has a range of 300 meters. The function allows the drone to go back to a specific location that you can set as long as that location is within the range. That is where the infrared sensors come in handy as you can get it to go into confined spaces like your house. The drone, using the infrared sensors, would be able to navigate through the area on its own when returning home.

The chunky controller has not changed from the DJI Phantom 4. Of course the price is more expensive due to the additional Pro features.

Now onto the drone itself. It has a carry case which as the name suggests can carry items in it. The propellers can be easily removed and clipped on for the ease of setup.

Camera Specifications:

  • 4K video at 60fps
  • Max video bitrate 100Mbps
  • 128GB MicroSD
  • 20-megapixel, 1-inch CMOS sensor
  • Mechanical shutter
  • Aperture control f2.8-f11

The specifications are what you would usually find in a camera drone.

2 of the drone functions include ActiveTrack and Tapfly mode. ActiveTrack allows the drone to follow a subject by flying sideways or backwards. Tapfly mode, which works backwards now, allows the drone to fly to a location which you will determine by tapping on the screen and you can rotate the drone or tilt the camera without changing its path. The software can handle the gimbal’s smooth sweeps and tracking better than you can, and that is what’s worth the price for interested photographers.

The drone comes with a beginners mode where it restricts the top seed and steering. Once you are more comfortable with flying it, you can always remove the beginner mode anytime you feel like.

I personally feel that the price is worth it for the wide variety of functions and the complexity of each function. The functions are easy to use and can easily help one out in sticky situations.

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro costs on an average of $1,500USD.

360fly 4K

With 360 degree videos coming into trend among different types of social media and platforms, 360 cameras are thus also rising in popularity and demand. The 360fly 4K might be worth considering if you are interested in joining the trend.

Firstly, it is able to capture photos with its highest quality being 2,880X2,880 pixels and videos at up to 30fps. Moreover, you can also stream your videos at 24fps. Unfortunately the camera is not fully spherical as it only has a 360X240-degree lens. Thus the camera will not be able to capture the 120 degrees below the lens.

The video quality is overall relatively decent when compared to other 360 cameras. The mobile application for the 360fly 4K has many different functions which really allows you to have a unique experience compared to other 360 cameras. For example, it has a Watch Me mode where you can choose different parts and scenes of a video that you want the viewers to see and piece them together to form a 16:9 video. Having this function allows you to continue recording the camera without stress as you can clip and edit the entire recording effectively.

The application is also available on desktop but lacks certain functions that the phone app contains. The audio of the camera however has less spectacular results as it really isn’t capable of capturing high quality audio well. It often sounds muffled and does not have an audio port as well. Using the camera to live stream is also possible with streaming applications but you will have to keep your phone close to the camera to keep the connection healthy. The 360fly 4K has a battery that lasts for about 15 hours. The camera also has an internal storage with 64GB of space or about 3 hours of 4K recording.

There is a dock at the bottom of the camera called the PowerCradle for charging the device and you need to use a microUSB to connect it to your charger. You can also transfer your photos and videos manually by connecting the device to your computer. Though, this can only be accomplished with the cable.

In conclusion the 360fly 4K is a really all – rounded 360 camera. Its mobile application brings you really efficient and effective editing. Though its audio flaws are really concerning if you do require decent audio. Overall I feel that this 360 camera is really worth considering if you are looking for one.

Immedia Blink

Though it may not look like it, this is in fact a security camera. Simple and compact, this camera alone costs less than a S$100. Though lacking features that puts it up on a different level compared to other security cameras, I feel that this is forgiveable considering that it falls into the category of a low-budget camera

The device is cordless and battery operated. Despite its relatively low price, the Blink definitely does not neglect performance for its price. It had a solid connection with Wi – Fi and did not have interruptions. Though, the application for the camera was not flawless and gets frequent lags due to its system being busy.

Being in the shape of an exact square, the Blink measures approximately 7cm on each side. Along with the camera, two AA lithium batteries, a stand and mounting hardware will also come along with it. Made to be placed indoors, the Blink isn’t exceptionally durable largely due to the fact that the device is made from plastic. The lens has a 110 degree field of vision and has image quality worth 720p. It is also equipped with a motion sensor, infrared LED made for night vision and a micro-USB slot.

Together with the Blink, customers would also get a Sync Module, a white square accessory which includes a power adapter and performs various rather unique functions. For example, it would communicate with the Blink servers to prevent extensive draining of battery. Whenever the uses wishes to stream live videos, the Sync Module will change the performance mode of the Blink in order to maximize its performance via a radio channel. Furthermore, the Sync Module also has a USB port which can be used to install updates and setup the Blink application on the user’s phone. The application is relatively simple to set up. All you need to do is connect the Sync Module to any device and with Wi-Fi, the setting up should only take a moment. The Sync Module does help with connection and ease the camera of having a USB port but at the same time, this is at the cost of carrying the two devices around. In my personal opinion, I feel that the camera would do just fine without the Sync Module and it would actually be much simpler if everything was done on the Blink itself.

Though it has a pretty eye-catching price tag, its features aren’t really that much to brag about as it just lacks more unique functions to put itself in a league above the rest. There is also minor flaws in the motion sensor as it is unable to differentiate between a person, a pet or any other moving object. Compared to its rivals in its price range, there really isn’t much that sets the Blink apart from the rest but do expect more from the camera in future as Immedia has stated that more features and functions would be added to the Blink. However, as it is right now, the Blink does not stand out. Therefore, if you’re looking for a budget security camera, don’t take the Blink out of your consideration but taking a look at others would not be an unwise decision. With that said, I honestly would not put the Blink at the top of the list of budget security cameras.

Logitech HD PRO WEBCAM C920

The HD Pro Webcam C920 is made by logitech and is said to produce 1080p HD video recordings on skype or Facetime if you’re a Mac user. The webcam is made out of glossy and matte black plastics and a clear plastic cover over the optics. Although it has a permanent USB cable attached to it, the cable is typically long enough.

The mount of the webcam is also special as it pivots that allow it to not only brace the webcam tightly so that it won’t fall out easily, but it also has a pivot to change the vertical angle of the webcam. If you don’t feel like attaching the webcam on your laptop lid or computer monitor, there’s a tripod attachment you can place it on your desk instead.

It also has two microphones attached at both sides of the webcam for stereo audio. The C920 also doesn’t require any special software that you are required to install to work properly. All you have to do is plug it in any open USB ports and let it install and if you’re on Windows it would automatically detect Skype.

Though if you’re interested in installing the software that works with it, Logitech’s Webcam Controller software, comes a Control Tab and Effects Tab, the Control Tab has features like auto-tracking, zoom adjustments, tilt, and more. The Effects Tab allow you to add filters, accessories to your face, and more which is typically used if you’re not being serious.

As for performance, comments have pointed out that the video quality was perfect and it was certainly good. The focus, light balance and frame rates were said to be excellent. However, a bluish cast can be seen in drastic lighting conditions but can be easily fixed by turning off red light. For the audio quality, it is really clear and cancels out most background noise. This is really good if you’re in a professional stand point and require clear and a non-noisy background.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for quality video when using Skype or want to use it professionally or casually on streaming services like Twitch, then this would be a perfect webcam for you. The webcam is also isn’t that expensive at the price of S$189.00 retail price. I would recommend this greatly, if you’re planning on starting out streaming or casting.

Huawei Nexus 6P

The Huawei Nexus 6P is basically the elder brother of LG Nexus 5X. The difference between Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P is the Nexus 6P is bigger in size(5.7-inch screen) compare to Nexus 5X(5.2-inch screen). For the display, Nexus 6P has a resolution of 2560 x 1440(515ppi) and the Nexus 6P has a AMOLED display.

Nexus 6P has a 12 megapixels and a 8 megapixels front-facing camera. The camera has a Face detection, Autofocus (Laser), Touch to focus and Geo tagging features. The phone features Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, Octa-core, 2GHz, ARM Cortex-A57 and ARM Cortex-A53, 64-bit, a Adreno 430 and 3 GB of RAM.

It has 128GB of built-in storage and a battery capacity of 3450 mAh. It has Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, USB Type-C for fast charging. It also features a fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone, which users usually prefer to use their index finger for the fingerprint.

I think that Huawei Nexus 6P is a great flagship phone for 2015 as it features pure google marshmallow and a strong aluminum body compare to LG Nexus 5x which is made out plastic. It has a good camera, a great display and great performance. Overall I would recommend this phone to friend who loves android and high-end phones.
